Benefits of omega 3 fish oil.Omega 3 fish oil is not just the proverbial snake oil. It does show important health benefits. I am a practicing ophthalmologist in Florida for over 30 years. This is first time I have been so impressed with the health benefits of a dietary supplement.
Humans do not have the enzymes needed to make DHA and EPA ( omega 3). Therefore these important nutrients are dependent on one's diet.
The benefits of Omega 3 were first noted in heart disease. Later on, Omega 3 ( DHA and EPA) were found to reduce the abnormal blood vessel growth found in age related macular degeneration and diabetic retinal eye disease. By reducing bad fatty acids ( trans fat and monosaturated fat) in the cell wall, there is benefit to the nervous and immune systems.
